His research explores biopolitics, environmental justice, and science fiction, with recent work examining ecological worldviews in contemporary transnational media. As a 2021–2022 Fulbright Scholar in Taipei, he investigated the portrayal of waste and recycling in Taiwanese culture. Richard’s articles have appeared in the Slavic Literatures special issue (2023) and in the collection of essays on H.G. Wells in Russia (2019).
Alongside his academic work, Richard develops and documents open-source tools for Emacs, focusing on usability and accessibility. He is passionate about clear communication, cross-cultural collaboration, and making complex ideas accessible to broad audiences.
